Our final week abroad took us from the serene temples of Kyoto to the bustling energy of Osaka and finally to soulful Seoul, South Korea. It was a week filled with memory-making moments—bowing deer, bubbling hair spas, and a perfectly torched marshmallow ice cream bar (10/10 would try again… maybe). If Week 1 was about starting strong, Week 4 was all about ending well—with deep breaths, final bites, and a healthy dose of laughter along the way.

Here’s a peek at how we wrapped up our month-long journey. For all the funny, foodie, and heartfelt details, you can click the links to each full journal entry on Facebook.

Day 22: Sweet Starts + Bowing Deer in Nara

We kicked things off with a traditional nerikiri sweets and matcha class that had me slurping green tea like a pro (or at least trying). Then we made our way to Nara, where the deer literally bowed for snacks—and where Lilly became the proud owner of “kids beer” (don’t worry, it was apple soda). Osaka welcomed us that night with neon lights, savory pancakes, and one of the most eclectic dinners of the trip.

Day 23: When Expo Plans Become Wagyu Wins

The World Expo in Osaka? Beautiful in theory, overwhelming in practice. We gave it a shot, saw what we could, then made a quick pivot to Dōtonbori Street for—you guessed it—more wagyu. The real highlight? Sampling global beers and finally listening to our feet by ending the day with a much-needed massage.

Day 24: Cup Noodles, Donuts & a Bittersweet Goodbye

Our last day in Japan was refreshingly unscheduled. We devoured a real American-style breakfast, built our own noodle cups at the Cup Noodles Museum, got lost in Osaka’s underground mall, and said a sweet farewell with filled donuts and lemon mochi.

Day 25: Seoul Arrival + A Sobering Visit to the DMZ

Hello, Korea! We jumped right into the history of Seoul with a visit to Gyeongbokgung Palace before heading to the Demilitarized Zone. It was powerful, emotional, and a heavy reminder of how much freedom we take for granted. We ended the day with Korean fried chicken—because balance.

Day 26: Market Snacks, Shoe Drama & Street Bar-Hopping

A broken shoe led us to a whirlwind market hunt, followed by crispy mung bean pancakes, hotteok, and soju under the stars. The mix of ancient gates and modern bars made Seoul feel instantly electric.

Day 27: Spa Day, Street Food & One Final Korean BBQ

If you’re going to end a five-week trip, end it with a scalp camera, mochi ice cream, garlic bread that tastes like magic, and a BBQ dinner you’ll dream about later. Our last full day was equal parts pampering and play—with a spontaneous shooting range visit that sealed the deal.

Day 28: Homebound with Mochi Regrets + Travel Agent Wins

And just like that, we were heading home—tired, full, and wildly grateful. Between sore throats and long flights, I still found myself smiling. This trip had twists, pivots, and plan B’s galore… and I loved every second of it. This is exactly why I do what I do.
